Engagement
The 'yes' before the wedding
The engagement party is the first time both families meet officially. Champagne, cocktail hour, the bride's father's speech, nervous smiles from the grandparents. Tov handles the invitation, the RSVP, and the WhatsApp distribution — you handle the nerves of the first speech.
Why Tov for an engagement
The moment when
it all starts
Two families, one invitation
An engagement party typically brings 50-120 people: close family from both sides + intimate friends. A single Tov invitation suffices, shared by both families via WhatsApp to their respective networks.
Editorial palettes, sober tone
An engagement deserves an elegant invitation — not the same vibe as a birthday. Tov palettes built for this moment: dusty rose + cream, ivory + sage, navy + blush.
RSVP by side (bride / groom)
Optional RSVP field: 'bride's guest' or 'groom's guest'. You know precisely how many guests to expect per side, useful for cocktail-hour seating.
Questions from the engaged
Your questions,
our answers.
What's the difference between an engagement party and Tena'im?
Engagement parties are the modern, festive version — cocktail, announcement, photos. Tena'im are the traditional religious version — written contract (the 'conditions'), broken plate, sometimes considered as binding as marriage. Many families do both, separately or together.
How long before the wedding?
Tradition: 6-12 months ahead. Many families announce engagement as soon as they have a wedding date. The earlier, the more it lets distant guests (Israel, Europe) block their calendar.
Do you need a rabbi for an engagement?
No — it's not a strict religious ceremony. If you want to add a blessing (Sheheheyanu), your rabbi can come for 10 minutes to recite it. For the contractual religious version, see the Tena'im page.
What size reception?
Classic format: 50-120 guests, cocktail dinner (not a seated meal), short speeches. Simpler to organize than a wedding, more conversational.
